Many Nurses forced to self-fund Training

According to an article by Steve Ford in the Nursing Times, about a third of nurses have been self funding their own post registration training in key subjects such as Health and Safety, Child Protection and BLS. This information has come to light following a survey conducted by the Royal College of Nursing.

Peter Mehta of EasiLearning said “We are aware of a number of enquiries in particular for our online anaphylaxis refresher training from individual nurses.  Fortunately the cost of completing an online course is very low – probably less than the petrol costs to drive into work. Nonetheless, I was suprised to learn from the RCN survey that an many as a third of nurses are self funding some of their training. Most of our courses are commissioned by the employer and can be accessed from anywhere as long as the individual has access to a PC and a printer. The employer can track the training either via our web Train and Track system or through an LMS such as AT Learning, Training Tracker or the nLMS”
